Carolina Vasilikou
Dr. Carolina Vasilikou is an architect, educator and researcher who works with communities and architectural students to enhance research and practice-led global transferable skills that bridge education with architectural practice. Barry Martin
Our guest artist and keynote speaker, Barry Martin, will be showcasing his latest sculpture; inspired by place, history, contemporary style considerations and the legends of the region. Offering an interactive experience, the sculpture becomes a physical repository and material archive “through which we carry and collect the stories we tell, are being told and share about our understanding of place and Sykourio, all while keeping the negotiation with the here and now in the sense of material, open-ended practice and connections with the place of workshop.”
Barry Martin.
“Barry Martin became the most versatile and prolific British exponent of Kinetic Art in London in the ‘Swinging Sixties’ and early Seventies.”
Julius Bryant, Author and Keeper Emeritus of the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Abigail Gillbard
Abigail, BSc (Hons) in Architecture, is a recent graduate of the University of Reading. Interested in how art and architecture can communicate and inform one another, she enjoys the visual aspects of learning and gaining deeper insight into the meanings of design. Alongside this, ideas of designing for the changing climate and our evolving planet are important and should be taken greater notice of. As a designer, Abigail uses these concepts to inform her work and life.
Alejandro Haidoulis Ocampos
Recent BSc (Hons) in Architecture graduate from University of Reading, Alejandro, as the name suggests, is half Greek and Spanish, and has grown up in Oxfordshire. He has a passion for the social and welfare architecture found during the Brutalist architecture epoch, a golden age of communal design. Alejandro enjoys participating and volunteering as seen with his work in Your Place and Our Place Community Centre, and his work in Reading University’s Architecture School End of Year Graduation Show for the last 3 years. Alejandro views architecture as a medium that works with people to create permanent structures or art that portrays stories for future people and generations.
