Spring School Fieldwork 2024 - Completed.
Ongoing fieldwork - new dates for Spring School to be announced. Contact us if you are interested in joining us for the next stages of research.
Following the second foundational phase (Spring 2024) we plan to launch our Spring School programme, for which there will be a nominal fee** that will include spring school tuition, evening talks, breakfast and dinner, provided by a local chef on days as detailed below, and all materials associated with the event.
Our school programme will include structured design, physical construction and community workshops delivered through three phases; ‘scoring and tracing’, ‘interaction’ and ‘exhibition’. We aim to contribute to your understanding of the built environment, people and place, and provide participants with design, construction and life skills to take forward into future study and employment.

The Old Stone House - Shared accommodation
Situated in Sykourio, the small traditional agricultural town at the foot of Mount Kissavos, our friends and neighbours, Jill and Angelo’s carefully renovated Old Stone House will be ‘home’ for breakfast and dinner for all participants in the Spring School 2024. For those who select it for shared accommodation the fee will be (tbc) per night.
The garden makes this house special as it is spacious, with walnut and olive trees, hammocks, a fire pit, vegetable garden and grape vines which guests are welcome to help themselves to when the vegetables and grapes are in season. The house is two storey with a large entrance hall full of books and a dedicated work space. Downstairs there is a living room and a wonderful kitchen with views and access to the garden. There is a patio area off the kitchen with an outdoor dining table under a pergola with grape vines. A large bedroom downstairs contains a double and a single bed. There is also a shower and toilet (please note there is a step up into the shower in this bathroom). Upstairs there are two more bedrooms, the larger of the two rooms has a double bed and two singles, the smaller contains a double bed. On the landing there is a day bed. There is one large indoor bathroom upstairs with washing machine and access to the balcony and finally there is one shower room (our favourite) located off the courtyard - perfect for cooling off in the summer!
The TZHMA House Olive Grove - Camping
For those keen to explore, experience and reconnect we have a camping option. Our traditional stone house and olive grove is situated in the centre of Sykourio, a stone’s throw away from the main square, while tucked away so you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet, and a few minutes walk from our neighbours at The Old Stone House. The olive grove will be home to those choosing to camp amongst the mature olive trees. Relax on the terrace under the grape vines or hang in the hammocks. The house offers a shared shower room and WC, or enjoy the outdoor shower under the vast Thessalian sky. Trust us, there is something magical about bathing outdoors.
For those who select camping the fee will be £10 per person per night. Tents, camping gear etc. are excluded. If you’re feeling adventurous and would like to stay on after the spring school we can connect you with options to explore the region; kayak, wild swim, hike and more, Mount Olympus is just the beginning.
Dining Experience
The Old Stone House which will be ‘home’ for breakfast and dinner for all participants during the Spring School. Our local chef has sourced a selection of the best fresh, seasonal produce from local providers to give you an authentic taste of Thessaly. From land, sea and garden to table they will cook up a feast. Breakfast is included Tuesday - Saturday, and Dinner on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (i.e. Thursday is excluded as we will be visiting Larisa). Meals will be vegetarian with the exception of one evening when you will be cooked for over a live fire and BBQ. Lunches can be purchased in the village, there are three bakeries, multiple shops and small eateries and we encourage you to support and engage with these and the local artisanal makers you will be meeting with during your stay.
